Creative Writing: Journey to the Center of the Earth

(This was when Alex's creative writing really took off, and he really blew us away. This was in the summer of 2016; his therapist Elizabeth did a science lesson on the earth's core, and at the end she asked him to imagine that he was going to the center of the earth with a professor. We were so impressed that she had him continue the story at the end of the next few sessions. She said this was the first time she'd ever had a kid narrate a story like he was writing a novel! -Denise)

"With risks thrown aside, I accept the stupidly risky invitation to journey to the center of the earth. Where are we having a place to rest during this trip?" I wondered. "Rest is a priority," laughs the professor. "Where would you like to rest?" "I would like to rest at the rest stop at the mantle." "That is a brilliant idea, Alex!" shouts the professor. "Off to the mantle!" I grinned to the professor. The impulsion engine agrees and gets us under way. "Would you like to drive?" asks the professor. "Oh indeed!" I bellow. I grabbed the wheel and hit the gas! I grabbed on in hearty surprise as the earth ship slung us into the surface of the earth's hard crust. Rock and dirt let us through like my spoon goes through ice cream. "Way to go!" I shout to the professor. I always wanted to chisel through the earth to see what nice routes are available. New levels of the earth reveal themselves as we tunnel our way to the mantle. "So much for the crust!" I smile as we enter the mantle. "How about a bite?" I ask pleadingly. "Sure" the professor decides. "Only there are hours to go to get to the rest stop to have lunch." My likely estimate is two hours. There should be snacks in the fridge." Reaching new energy and a full stomach, I enter the cockpit of the rocket. "Have we descended into the mantle yet?" I inquired. "Almost!" the professor gleefully chuckles. The earth becomes more dense as we tunnel downward. Ores of various minerals flash by as we go deeper into the rich layers of soil and rock. No one should ever destroy this natural beauty.
